Volunteer work has always been extremely important for the completion of Solar’s activities. We currently have around 150 volunteers participating directly or indirectly. This year, volunteer work was more than a victory!
With new volunteers, visits, email contacts, new sporting partnerships with companies and vocational courses in music and other areas, we were able to meet important needs in the nursery, in extra schooling and in the arts, with sustainable workshops.

According to the volunteer program coordinator, Carlos Poyart, voluntary work at Solar is the most important lever for our growth. “In 2012 we hope to repeat the success with the arrival of even more kind, creative and generous people working to help others”, said Poyart.

There are many moving statements from our volunteers. Below is just one example, to show the enthusiasm of our dear friends:

“My name is Danielle Melo and I have been a social worker and a volunteer at Solar Meninos de Luz since July. I monitor the social cases that are brought by the volunteers who visit the community’s poorest homes. I found out about Solar through another volunteer, who works at the Paulo de Tarso Home. She told me about the work and invited me to the institution. I was very well received by Yolanda Maltaroli, founder and president, and by Isabella Maltaroli, Solar director. So I began my contribution! For me, voluntary work was a gift! I do it out of love, vocation and to contribute to this special community. Every family I visit or monitor reminds me that this is what I love doing; contributing towards the development and transformation of these people, who have so much potential! I believe in Solar’s work and I will stay on in 2012, being useful to this work.” – Danielle Mello, social workers.
