VI Literary Café – Music through the ages
High School students presented the VI Solar Literary Café at the Meninos de Luz Theater on Wednesday, the 10th of November, at 8.30am. With help from teacher Sandra Lessa and the collaboration of teacher Renata Macedo, the young people prepared a presentation called “Music Through the Ages”, which this year honored composer Billy Blanco.
The teenagers’ main goal was to show the audience the beautiful story of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), as well as how it arose, what its influences are and how it is sung throughout the country.
When they planned the project and chose the theme, the students were thinking about how music has always been present in human life. They created a theater performance in which a radio program called Music Through the Ages played every song since the discovery of Brazil, drawing the timeline of MPB.
The students prepared many scenes, such as the Portuguese arriving in Brazil, and including great musicians like Noel Rosa, Carmem Miranda, Tom Jobim, Cely Campello, Geraldo Vandré, Frenéticas, Renato Russo and Claudinho and Buchecha, as well as country music, the band Mamonas Assassinas and a Brazilian funk performance!
At the end of the play, Sandra Lessa and Solar president Yolanda Maltaroli came on stage to be applauded and honored. The young people thanked them for the confidence they had placed in their work, for their support and for the opportunity to create such a beautiful performance which revealed their talents.
At 10.30am everyone went on to the Choir Room, which was entirely decorated with the Literary Café theme, and where a wonderful breakfast was offered to the guests!
