Tribute to Solar volunteers
Continuing the homage that Solar will do to their dear and indispensable volunteers, in May, our honored friend is Balu. She has been part of Solar for more than 20 years and works in the Integral Education and in Family/Community programs.
Balu agreed to answer some questions:
Full name?
Balu Carvalho.
How did you get to know Solar?
I met Solar through a friend, Alessandra Maltarolli, in a Bazaar at Visconde de Pirajá Street.
How long have you volunteered at Solar?
Since the last century, for more than 20 years.
In what areas do you work?
I currently work in the Evangelization of Integral Education with students of the first year, in the visit to Manjedoura Project families, in Community Program Public Meeting, in the spontaneous and permanent divulgation of Solar Campaigns and supporting the events.
How do you feel about working at Solar?
I feel very accomplished and permanently challenged.
What do you think about Solar’s work?
I think the work done by Solar is admirable for the original proposal, but also for the amount of obstacles that exist. They manage to overcome and do not feel intimidated by the difficulties. This strength, faith, and persistence are the motivating factors for the volunteers and make them truly commit. Seeing the children grow up healthy… We see the result of all that commitment, which gives even more joy!
Do you think Solar influences people’s lives? In what way?
Solar influences the life not only of its students, but of its families and also of the Community, since it works for so long and with so much emphasis and so much care with the residents. The speech of peace and brotherhood echoes in every corner. I could see this during the visits in families homes, through the affection and respect with which we are received. Cultural projects, through the Art Gallery, Theater and other artistic and social events value the residents, improving their self-esteem.
What is Solar characteristic that you most appreciate?
What I admire the most is Isabella Maltarolli’s steady and sweet direction and the intense and loving dedication of her whole family.
Is there a nice story between you and the children?
I have done so many events in the theater, in classrooms, in hotels, walks at Municipal Theater, orphanages, small squares, cultural centers, photo production and events with celebrities, meetings in companies, TV interviews, parades, uff!!! I would have many cool stories, I could write a book!
Solar history is still being built and I am very grateful to have loaded a brick for this incomparable work. I’m a fan!
Balu, Solar Meninos de Luz thank you immensely for all the love and education you give each year to our children!
