Tribute to Solar volunteers
Continuing the homage that Solar will do to their dear and indispensable volunteers, in April, our honored friend is Diana. She has been part of Solar for 3 years and works in the Integral Education and in Family/Community programs.
Diana agreed to answer some questions:
Full name?
Diana Nijboer
How did you get to know Solar?
In 2014, I was invited by Anna White to attend Rio Cello International Encounter presentation and so I had my first contact with Solar. I was thrilled for the work and so our partnership started.
How long have you volunteered at Solar?
I started working at Caranguejo on Saturdays after a meeting with Mrs Iolanda and Isabella in 2014. Every time I went there, I was moved and I fell more and more in love with the children and their work.
I need to work there to give love, give attention, educate these beloved children. I feel so much love for them. The joy of children and the transformation in their lives gives me a feeling of eternal gratitude.
In what areas do you work?
In addition to volunteering on Saturdays, I also developed community education programs for children, and so my partnership with Solar started. I founded EduMais and now I support children and adolescents through the development of social-emotional skills, English classes and web and game design classes. I have a team of 15 volunteers, native English speakers and professional teachers who teach.
How do you feel about working at Solar?
Solar’s work means a lot to me. Every day I feel more grateful; this work touches my heart in a way that I can not explain better.
What do you think about Solar’s work?
The work carried out by Solar in Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo communities is extremely necessary. We can change the lives of children and young people for better lives with so much love and education.
Do you think Solar influences people’s lives? In what way?
Undoubtedly, Solar influences the lives of many people in PPG. And in several ways, as I mentioned earlier.
What is Solar characteristic that you most appreciate?
The characteristic I most appreciate is LOVE. The way Solar loves what it does.
Is there a nice story between you and the children?
The coolest thing for me is that the students start speaking English when they see me. That makes me smile!
Diana, Solar Meninos de Luz thank you immensely for all the love and education you give each year to our children!
