Tribute to Solar volunteers
Continuing the tribute that Solar will do to their dear and indispensable volunteers, in April, our honored friend is Fernando Barbosa. He teaches Ballroom dance classes. Fernando agreed to answer some questions:
Full name?
My name is Fernando Barbosa de Araujo.
How did you get to know Solar?
I met Solar through a job vacancy for the certificate and copy sector.
How long have you volunteered at Solar?
I have been a volunteer since October 2014.
In what areas do you work?
I am the Solar employee responsible for logistics (stock, shopping, warehouse and donation transportation), as well as volunteering in the Ballroom dance classes as a teacher and choreographer.
How do you feel about working at Solar?
A sense of professional and personal fulfillment, seeing that our work generates far greater profits than the financial one.
What do you think about Solar’s work?
Necessary and very important. Since nowadays it is widely spoken that the problem is in “Education”, Solar does this at the root, bringing education, knowledge and information to those who need it the most and and have almost nothing.
Do you think Solar influences people’s lives? In what way?
Yes, Solar has a great influence on people’s lives, in this commitment to transform … it is through education, information and opportunity that we are influenced to become better human beings when we come in contact with Solar Meninos de Luz.
What is Solar characteristic that you appreciate the most?
Commitment to people’s development.
Is there a nice story between you and the students?
For me, the coolest stories are of the students overcoming their fears, since now, after 4 years, we have our first boys doing class. Seeing students like Jaqueline, currently in the second year of High School, with me for two years, who at the beginning was at the back of the room hiding from colleagues and the mirror, with low esteem and shame of her body, now staying in the front and being reference inside the room. Seeing this growth and maturity in them makes all our effort and work really worth it.
Fernando, Solar Meninos de Luz thank you immensely for the time, knowledge and love dedicated to Solar and the students!
