The Vegetarianism Project is one year old
Solar Meninos de Luz is celebrating one year of the Vegetarianism Project. Next Friday, the 21st of October, this date will be marked by a meat-free lunch for 500 people, including students, teachers and employees of the institution. During the occasion, there will be a painting workshop for children with artist Jorge Barata and a showing of the documentary Waste Land for the young people.
The meal will be prepared by chef Tiça Magalhães, who has been coming to Solar since the first lunch, on the 1st of October, 2010. Along with volunteer yoga teacher Letícia Portella, who implemented the project at our NGO, she is preparing a book of vegetarian recipes to be launched next year. All the revenue from the book sales will go to Solar. These two friends intend to take the practice to other schools.
Solar Meninos de Luz, supported by the pillars of volunteerism, already holds a meat-free lunch every week. The project is a success! The kids love it! We currently have 80% acceptance, and foods like soy and different vegetables are used, leading to healthy and mindful nutrition for babies aged 3 months to young people aged 18.
