Tarsila do Amaral Reinterpretation Project Exhibition
Since the 5th of September, the educators and children from year 1 to 5 have been working on this theme. Goals:
To learn about the life and work of artist Tarsila do Amaral and understand her importance for Brazilians.
Learn about Tarsila’s activities in other fields, apart from fine art.
Stimulate our students’ appreciation of beauty, bringing them as close as possible to the arts through the observation of shapes, colors and forms and knowledge of artists’ lives.
Encourage the educators involved in the project to research and study.
The idea for the project came out of the reinterpretation work carried out by the 5th year and, with the possibility of a new exhibition at the Solar Art Gallery, we decided to expand the activity.
The students were able to understand that reinterpretation is not simply copying but another form of expression, using the artist’s work as inspiration. They also saw that reinterpretation doesn’t only apply to paintings, that it is possible to experiment with other techniques or materials to create drawings, sculptures, etc.
It is extremely important that all students learn about Tarsila do Amaral’s life, talk amongst themselves and ask questions, but this can only be successfully done if the teacher is also involved and well-informed.
It is essential that children observe and express what they think and feel, thus stimulating their creativity and critical sense. We believe this type of activity can reach students, especially, and also parents, guardians, the family and the community.
