Solidary Children help residents of Vietnã and Caranguejo
During the month of December, students aged 6 to 10, from the 1st to 5th years of High School I at Solar, accepted the invitation from the Paulo de Tarso Home volunteers to visit residents of the Vietnã and Caranguejo underprivileged communities, located at the top of the Pavão-Pavãozinho Complex. The children were moved by the sight of the shacks made of leftover wood or clay, full of holes in their walls and ceilings, which let in the rain, muddying the floor. “I never thought there was so much extreme poverty here at Pavão-Pavãozinho” and “We have to help!” were phrases repeated over and over by the children, who were taken to the site by their teachers several times.
Back at Solar, encouraged by director Rosemarie Ramalho and the teachers, the students organized a campaign in the community for the donation of clothes, food and hygiene material.
The students, divided into groups, celebrated Christmas by going back to the shacks three weeks later and delivering large quantities of donations, bringing joy to the residents.
Well done, Solidary Children and Pavão-Pavãozinho Community!
That is solidarity! That is Christmas!
But for next year, the Solidary Children have decided: “We have to do something to improve those shacks!”
