Solar Student seeks school sustainability through recycling
A student of Elementary School II of Solar Integral School has been gaining prominence. João Victor Loiola Ferreira Chaves, of 7th grade, who works the Pedagogy Project in two bimonths of his school year, chose to work on a theme that can help at Solar sustainability.
João has always had an interest in environmental issues such as pollution and deforestation. So he decided to work on Sustainability and Ecology in favor of Solar and reduce the energy bill through recycling. Its counselor, the teacher Thais Cerqueira, gave a little shove. She called the Light Recycling Project, which exchange waste for discount in energy bills, and let he explain his project.
They have made an agreement and Solar will have its expense reduced if it gets partner companies that can donate their trash in Solar’s name. João, in a hurry to help, got in touch with Louis Vuitton and got their support. The luxury brand known for its bags and suitcases produces about 3 tonnes of paper per year and will donate their trash in the name of the institution.
João is now trying to meet with Copacabana Palace Hotel, Bichara Advogados law firm and Cacau Show chocolats brand in search of new partnerships. He will also meet with PUC management to talk about his project and a possible environment-friendly gaming workshop – which is planned together with teacher Marcella Albaine.
He also aims to present lectures in schools and in the community itself with an educational purpose, so that people can be more concerned about the environment conservation.
