Solar closes the School for Parents year with the alcoholism theme
Parents of Solar students came to the Meninos de Luz Theater for the last School for Parents meeting of the year on the 19th of November. With a speech by Solar founder and president, Yolanda Maltaroli, and by the general director, Isabella Maltaroli, the theme was Alcoholism – How do we educate our children so they don’t become alcoholics?
The full audience was attentive and captivated. At the end of the meeting, which was followed by much applause, several parents went up to the speakers and hugged them.
Videos with examples of early onset of alcoholism were shown with the purpose of mobilizing parents and raising their awareness. The videos revealed the dangers of parents drinking near their children or even giving them a little bit to drink as a joke. Funny and tragic scenes were shown. As it was the last meeting of the year, and due to the seriousness of the subject, there was no group dynamic this time, but the parents were able to ask questions.
Interviews with psychologists and psychiatrists talking about the theme were shown and subsequently discussed by Yolanda. Statistics about violence provoked by alcoholism in children and young people whose parents allowed drinking at home and about deaths caused by alcohol-related illnesses were also presented.
