Photographer Emmanuelle Bernard conducts workshop with young high school students
Last Friday, September 13th, Paulo Coelho Community Library, at Solar Meninos de Luz, received photographer Emmanuelle Bernard for a workshop with high school students.
Emmanuelle Bernard was born in France and spent her childhood and adolescence in Rio de Janeiro. In 2010, Emmanuelle released her first book of photographs entitled "Carioca". The publication was about Rio de Janeiro, its inhabitants and their daily lives. In February 2012, she held her first international solo exhibition in Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia and the event took place at Bondi Pavilion Gallery.
The photographer took the opportunity to launch her new book, "Ginga”, that summarizes and represents the cadence of music and dance movement that are in Rio’s DNA. Some of the images from the beautiful publication were made in Solar Meninos de Luz, when she visited Pavão Pavãozinho community and recorded bboys battle, which was held at Meninos de Luz Theatre.
Emmanuelle commented about the importance of photography in young people lives. "Photography can help them see poetry in the simplicity of their daily lives, it can help to establish a view from the world around them," said Emmanuelle.
After the workshop, Emmanuelle donated 200 copies of "Ginga" to the students and to the Paulo Coelho Community Library Collection, returning with generous delicacy the youth and community participation, which were the characters of her story in the spectacular photographic work.
