On Tuesday, the 25th of October, Solar Meninos de Luz welcomed the writer, illustrator, advertising agent and art director JP Veiga. On the afternoon of Thursday, the 13th of October, writer Edna Bueno also came to Solar to participate in the Literary Solar.

JP also showed the young people his books “A Menina que Virou Mico Leão” (the girl who became a lion tamarin) and “A Galinha que Botou o Ovo em Pé” (the hen who laid an egg standing up) and gave them an e-book to read on the computer, bringing the Meninos de Luz Library into the digital era.

Besides, the author and illustrator promised the students he would sent them the studies of characters and illustrations he made before the books were ready, which show his attempts and errors. JP Veiga also suggested that the students make stories and illustrations about the theme “What would you do to be heard?” so that, in a future meeting, they could put everything together into a single structure and see the results!

JP Veiga ended the meeting by telling the story of his own ear, which had the students rolling with laughter!

In the afternoon of Thursday, the 13th of October, writer Edna Bueno came to Solar to also participate in Literary Solar. About 30 students laughed, sang and heard the stories written by her.

Edna Bueno began the activity by telling her own story. She explained to the students that when she was a child she loved writing and drawing. At the time, she used to write many letters to a cousin and this made her like writing more and more. In spite of her love of writing, Edna majored in engineering. “I felt totally out of place!” Even so, she worked in that area for 21 years.

When her son was a year old, she took a writing course with Maria Claudia Ramos, won a contest and took courses in children’s and young adults’ literature, African literature and Portuguese literature. She has published three books: “A Ingrid veio ver o Mar” (Ingrid came to see the sea) “Vovó e o Vento quanto Movimento” (Grandma and the wind, so much movement) and “Entre os Bambus” (between the bamboos).

Edna talked about how many situations in life can be inspiration for good stories because, with art, we can see things in a different way. She also opened a space for children to tell their stories and sing songs as a way of stimulating creativity.
