Continuing the tribute that Solar will do to their dear and indispensable volunteers, in November, our honored friend is the former student Jeferson. He is a trainee in Science and Biology and also teaches percussion classes.

Jeferson agreed to answer some questions:

Full name?
Jeferson Ribeiro Amaral.

How did you get to know Solar?

I met Solar when I was a student of the school, from Elementary I to High School (2002 – 2011).

How long have you volunteered at Solar?

Since 2015, I am a Solar volunteer. Initially with Monobloco percussion workshop, of which I was part, and later with the percussion workshop created by the interest of the students themselves.

In what areas do you work?

I do internship with the professors of Sciences and Biology and, in parallel, I give percussion class.

How do you feel about working at Solar?

Since I began to carry out the activities at Solar, I realize how positive is the action of the workshops in children day to day. As they watch a former student there, they begin to think of volunteering as a possible and positive thing in their future. And that already happens. Two of the students who participated in 2015 classes (Filipe Ferreira and Leandro Rodrigues) are present in the current workshop, helping the students.

What do you think about Solar’s work?

What Solar does is undoubtedly very important for the future of the children who study there. The activities offered by the school expand the universe of students’ knowledge and draw them out of an idleness that could lead them to tortuous directions.

Do you think Solar influences people’s lives? In what way?

No doubt. I said earlier that activities influence students, but at the same time they affect the families of the community. Activities that include residents, parents and family members can serve as a trigger for a transformation of the community’s social context.

What is Solar characteristic that you most appreciate?

The transformative character attracts me a lot of attention. I am proof that quality education and the teaching of extracurricular activities enhance the intellectual and moral development of students. I believe quite a lot in the students’ ability and I see that Solar increasingly encourages this potential to grow.

Is there a nice story between you and the students?

I am developing with Science and Biology teachers, in the morning, some stages that are part of my academic training and, in them, I have to teach in some moments. The great thing about this is that some of the students already know me from the percussion workshops and they end up asking me to teach percussion tones and even ask when they can show up in the workshop instead of asking me about science and biology. Obviously I always focus on the subject and then explain what I was asked about the percussion, but it’s a very funny relationship.

Jeferson, Solar Meninos de Luz thank you immensely for the love and education you give to our students!
