Lecture about indigenous culture
On September 26, the Indian Timei and activist Carla came to Solar to talk to our teachers and educators. The objective was to strengthen and broaden the knowledge of our educators regarding indigenous issues, which are being worked on with the students.
Timei and Carla talked about the natives current situation; how the contact with ‘non-indigenous’ is interfering indigenous people leading them to alcoholism, disease and consumption; its culture – from food preparation to the handicrafts; the organization in a tribe – how children participate in the whole process with adults and how the teachings are handed down from generation to generation.
They talked about topics such as Belo Monte, Xingu – location map, indigenous culture, indigenous struggle for land demarcation, issues experienced by Indians and similarity with community residents’ issues.
