Solidary Children visit the Romão de Mattos Duarte School
At Solar Meninos de Luz, students must take part in at least one initiative for helping others. This is the Solidary Children Project. On the 8th of December, students from the 9th year of Primary School and from High School, accompanied by coordinator Solange Ramos, visited the children at Romão de Mattos Duarte School for needy children, in Flamengo. The students threw a big party, with balloons, cake, sandwiches and soft drinks. They then organized many games to bring the children joy this Christmas month.
The fun lasted only for an afternoon, but it was enough to engrave the moment on the memory of our students, who enjoyed it very much and promised to go back.
According to student Camila Ferreira, it was very exciting to visit the school and hear each child’s story. “We had a unique and wonderful experience. How can you not be moved by seeing beautiful, happy children receive small gestures of love, kindness and attention?” she asked. “It’s not expensive toys or clothes that matter. The important thing is knowing how to share the best thing you have. Love. That’s exactly what all these children need. Attention, respect, education and lots of love,” Camila added. The student also said that she would definitely do it again.
As for student Thayene Alves, she celebrated her birthday with the children. “Honestly, two hours at an orphanage is the best way to grow up. We complain about our lives, when a 4-year-old child is looking after her two-year-old sister,” she said. “Children abandoned by a woman who can’t be called a mother. The four-year-old is more mature and responsible than the mother who brought her into the world,” Thayene added after she heard the sad story. She also highlighted that she loved meeting all the children at the orphanage. “I’ll be back in January! Thank you so much for the wonderful day!” she told the children.
According to student Dielly Paiva, who was also present at the recreational visit, we should all be more thankful for the lives we have. Camila Ferreira thanked everyone who had helped the event to happen, directly or indirectly. “The happiness in those little children’s eyes is priceless. Thank you everyone, from the bottom of my heart.”
