Tribute to Solar volunteers
Continuing the homage that Solar will do to their dear and indispensable volunteers, in June, our honored friend is Gustavo. He has been part of Solar for more 16 years and works at Nursery.
Gustavo agreed to answer some questions:
Full name?
Luis Gustavo Bellintani Ribeiro.
How did you get to know Solar?
I met Solar through the old bazaar on Canning Street.
How long have you volunteered at Solar?
I have been volunteering at Solar for 16 years.
In what areas do you work?
In the early years, I worked only in Nursery and Maternal. I have been following the children growth and therefore following them in the next classes. Today I know children that I took care of in Nursery I, and now they are 16 years old.
How do you feel about working at Solar?
I love to work at Solar, I love the children very much and this work is already part of my life. I miss when I can not go more assiduously.
What do you think about Solar’s work?
I think Solar work is wonderful, very important, transformer.
Do you think Solar influences people’s lives? In what way?
It influences everyone, not only the children, but the volunteers and the teachers.
What is Solar characteristic that you most appreciate?
It puts a new dimension of life for who knows how important love, discipline and family concept are. At Solar, we experience all this together and at the same time. What is most positive for me is that we have closeness to community residents. Today, I know, I visit many houses and I can say that I have made good friends throughout this time.
Is there a nice story between you and the children?
In one of my early years as a volunteer, I decided to buy Christmas presents for the children in the classes I visited. It would be 160 kids, but I did not have enough money. I prayed to God and asked for help from family and friends. It was only later that I realized that I was able to buy the 160 presents without disbursing anything of my own money. Taking gifts on the eve of delivery, I received warm help from the teachers, who helped me pack and separate the appropriate toys for each class. It was an unforgettable moment!
