Shacks in the Vietnã and Caranguejo communities generate compassion and solidarity
Solar children aged 6 to 10 visited the Lar Paulo de Tarso home and showed course students pictures of shacks, taken during their outing to the top of the hill, where they found residents living in a state of squalor.
The course participants, along with volunteers from the Manjedoura Program, decided to help and went up to Vietnã and Caranguejo on the morning of Sunday, the 18th of December, visiting 40 homes and inviting residents to visit Solar Meninos de Luz, where they said prayers and donated Christmas baskets, toys and hygiene products to 160 people.
On Monday, the 19th of December, the Manjedoura group returned to the site and handed out invitations to 100 of the poorest families for a Christmas party with prayer, cake, pies, savory snacks and soft drinks, plus food and toys for 350 adults and children.
This second party, which took place on the 21st of December, was only possible because of the donation from artistic events producer Leo Fuchs, who ran a campaign among theater and TV actors.
Solidarity on the rise!
But everyone remained concerned about the residents’ situation, thinking of other ways to help.
