Children and adolescents produce (d)o outro lado do espelho exhibition
Between November 17 and December 3, Solar Art Gallery will promote ‘(d)o outro lado do espelho’ (on the other side of the mirror) exhibition, produced by Solar Integral School students, curated by Isabel Sanson Portella and Jozias Benedicto and coordinated by Osvaldo Carvalho.
From workshops given by Hugo Houayek and Patrizia D’Angello, artists participating of “Através do Espelho” (Through the Looking Glass) exhibition, a previous exhibition of Solar Art Gallery, 21 students worked hard to create works based on the same concept, “entering the mirror” of exhibition works and themes, reflecting on the proposed issues and producing their own views of works.
Hugo worked with the students in an observation design workshop, in which the challenge was to register, using visual language, the exhibition works. Patrizia walked with the students on an inner journey, from the search of each one image and his record with a self-portrait painted on paper. Workshops navigated two complementary art visions: recording and expression.
Students’ works will be presented in the Gallery exhibition space, in an installation with old frames profiles and workshops photos, complementing the first exhibition – like a landmark in the mirror.
Together, this exhibition will also show the result of a postal arts exchange between 4th year students of Solar and École Titon students, Paris, in 2015. The catalog, which brings together the work done in 3 workshops, will be Released and distributed to all students who participated in the project prepared by visual artist Abigail Nunes.
The artistic exchange had the objective of inserting, in internet era, the traditional communication between distant people, besides working art in materiality of work.
Students’ exposition is a practice developed with the aim of bringing children closer to the current country artistic production. Each of them has autonomy and a central role in the creation and reproduction of their ideas.
