Violet Princess Rereading Closure Project
Today, March 31, Solar Theater hosted the closing Princess Violet history rereading Project. This project idea began 2015, when Veralindá Menezes visited Solar to tell the story of her book, written for her daughter Sheron Menezes.
At the time, she proposed to our children a rereading of her book in 2016 and the idea was accepted both by teachers and students. In March, the book story was crafted between classes of Child Education and Elementary School, covering topics like family, respect for differences, black princesses and princes origin, appreciation of black beauty, wealth, respect for different options, human skills and gender difference.
The project equally involved students, their families and employees of Solar Meninos de Luz, who were interested and admired by the first story they heard about a black princess.
During march, there have been discussions and written works about women´s evolution in society and in job market, family formation nowadays, country’s riches and its distribution, individual concept of wealth and respect to the differences.
Appreciation of black beauty, especially of our children, was one of the main issues, gaining prominence between all worked themes It was noticed an increase in black children self -steem and a sense of equality between the students, commented by them inside the school and at home with their families.
To Veralindá, this was an indescribable experience. “When I started writing the book, the acceptance was not very good. I thought about giving up. See a school like Solar Meninos de Luz embrace this story is very exciting.”, says the author.
Project closure happened today at Solar Theater with a presentation of elementary school classes and the author presence in the audience. All students have become princes and princesses.
