The White House
As our kids graduated from year to year, new classes were started, and the search for more room was constant. It was now time to think about Middle School.
Through our new partnership with Paulo Coelho Foundation, we were able to rent our fourth house, nº 138, also known as White House.
In the year 2000, we launched our Middle School, along with Colégio Cidade de Aplicação. This was made possible through a partnership with ASSESPA – St. Paul Apostle’s Educational Association (through Dr. Ronald Levinson), which in turn belonged to UniverCidade. This partnership was extended all the way to High School, including scholarships to the UniverCidade between 2006 and 2013. However, this came to an end in 2014, which was a tremendous loss, and meant many dreams came to a halt. But more about this part of the story next week!
But there were also plenty of good news all this while. We launched our first complementary activities through our partnership with the Paulo Coelho Institute and FURNAS.
The Solar was also, for the very first time, recognized as a “Entidade Beneficente” (beneficial entity), achieving the certificate of 297th and 309th “Maior Entidade Beneficente do Brasil” (largest beneficial entity of Brazil), awarded by Filantropia 400, through Kanitz & Associates in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
Up to this day, the “White House” is the only rented property of Solar Meninos de Luz.
TRIBUTE TO DR. RONALD LEVINGSON
“Dr. Ronald, our beloved partner and friend. For 13 years, from 2000 to 2013, you have made our Middle and High Schools possible. You have also lent us your property at 142 Saint Roman Street, where our preschool is housed, and made possible full scholarships in UniverCidade. Without your generosity and defense of the Solar, we wouldn’t have been able to come so far, and a great number of lives would not have been changed for the better! Thank you, Dr. Ronald! We will never forget you.”
